The BBC has an article about the new Union Flag. Quite frankly, this is one of the most convincing arguments against independence I have seen. If the price of independence is seeing those horrible, busy, uncoordinated monsters plastered around the place, then the price is too high. The black and yellow one just makes it look like my monitor is broken. At least the modern one looks pretty fancy, even if it almost has a German flag hidden in it.
Beyond the comedy, this article does bring up an interesting international perspective. We spent all 2012 hearing about Team GB, but what about Brand GB. The Union Flag, being a distinctive design, serves as one of the most immediate symbols of the UK. It was just at the start of the year that it became a major fashion in Cuba. How would the world react when one of the most recognisable flags in the world becomes redundant?
Also there’s a little thing where people talk about Scottish independence. It caused a bit of a stir, and I’m pretty late to the party. Katie Hopkins is in it. She put her foot in her mouth later on. I honestly think she just had bad timing. Doesn’t stop her being the worst. ‘Nuff said.
